Right, it’s all over! I have passed my PGCE and I have a job for September. Hooray! It’s perfect, the school is great and a good fit for me, the only thing is is that the position is temporary, but that just means I’ll be job hunting again in a few months, and that seems a long way off just now. There’s also the small matter of me needing to I also need to figure out how to pay the bills until then. That’s another bridge to cross when I get to it. I’m going on holiday next week, so I’ll worry about all that when I get back home.
I think I need to change the name of this blog to ‘Diary of an NQT’ – what do you think?

Congrats! I had my final assessment yesterday and passed. One more week left (3 days in school and 2 in uni) but I’m all qualified.
And I have a job for Sept, so that’s another hurdle out of the way.

(Also? The first year sucks. You learn so much that you think your head will explode, which is sometimes not such a good thing. Apparently (I have three days left of my first year) it gets better after that.)

Congrats on the job – how long is it for? It’s no consolation, but I spent my first three years after qualifying working part-time on fixed-term contracts. We’re continually told there’s a shortage of teachers, but of course, it’s certain subjects in certain areas of the country. I was under the impression that MFL teachers were in short supply (I mean, I’m teaching French and Spanish as an extra even though I’m not qualified in those subjects!), but perhaps it’s not the case where you live. In my case, having come to teaching later in life, as a “second career”, I have young children at school that I don’t want to uproot, so it’s not as though I can move around the country easily and I had to take whatever I could get.
